If you are finding quartz pieces that have dark red or black attached to it, this is also a good sign that there is high iron content, and you may want to crush and sample some of the nearby rocks. I find more specimens like this one (dark with iron staining and other matrix) than I do with just gold and white quartz.

1) Not all white quartz will contain gold lines. 2) Gold is also found in non-rusty quartz. 3) Some thicker (cruder) gold lines will be iron pyrite. The reason we do the scratch test is to determine if we have located gold of golden colored pyrite. Gold will dent and is soft. Anything else that is not a valuable will crumble. There is an

For most small-scale gold prospectors, crushing ore to determine the amount of free gold is the best method to determine gold content within an ore sample. Free gold can then be collected using traditional gravity based methods, which do not require the same level of permitting as the chemical methods used by commercial gold mines.
Unlike alluvial gold, which is found as very small flakes on riverbanks, gold-bearing rocks have to be dug out of the ground. We''re after pure gold, but rock that contains gold also includes lots
2. Check the natural cracks and lines of the quartz rock. Gold often occurs along the natural linear structures of quartz rock, or its natural cracks and lines. It is easiest to spot in white quartz, though quartz can come in a range of colors including yellow, pink, purple, grey, or black.

Gold is often found associated with the mineral quartz. It is sometimes associated with other minerals as well, including iron and manganese oxides, calcite, pyrite and other sulfides as well. It is not uncommon for prospectors, especially those who operate metal detectors, to find a rich gold bearing specimens of ore. Sometimes the best use of
Prospectors prize beautiful gold and quartz specimens and they are a rare find. When the gold is distributed through the quartz in a balanced way that appeals to the eye, the quartz can be cut into a gemstone and fitted into an exquisite piece of jewelry. The popularity of gold in quartz reached its height in Victorian times, perhaps 125 years ago.

13 Jul 2016 07:11 AM. Saw an interesting Youtube video a bit ago. Guy took a lemon sized smooth quartz stone from a gold bearing river and crushed It using a steel mallet and t-shirt. As he broke it up, he checked for gold veins and found none, but panned out the crushed rock and found what appeared to be nearly 0.5 grams of nice gold flakes.
Once you find gold in quartz ore, you can extract gold by the flowing steps: 1 Use a sledgehammer to break the rock into smaller pieces. 2 Place a steel anvil in a large pan to prevent the loss of the gold contained in the quartz stone. 3 Look for large pieces of gold that can be collected manually or with tweezers.
Lastly, it is worth noting that gold has been found near or within granite formations in the past. However, the particles were seldom larger than 1mm (0.04in) and contained within the quartz presence in the granite. As we have seen, it is not entirely unlikely to find gold in granite. However, if you are looking for a rock formation that
